ToneThis is an application designed for creating ringtones and wallpapers, as well as uploading video and games, for your mobile.
To create ringtones, simply choose a sound file, and the select the part of it you want as a ringtone. This is uploaded to the ToneThis servers, and a link is sent to you, from which you can download your ringtone. There are also ringtones available from the right hand panel, although that's not very easy to navigate.
To create Wallpaper, the interface is much the same - you can make use pictures on your hard drive, or search Flickr with the panel on the right. It's not clear to us whether the image rights are being observed with Flickr, but it does give you a fairly extensive library to choose from.
While ToneThis is fairly easy to use, there are a number of annoying features. This is an Adware product, and you get a lot of adverts. During installation, you're asked about installing a further three sponsored programs, and it's not made clear they're not necessary to run ToneThis. Also, the program window is a bit buggy - the border tends to disappear.
Depsite requiring your phone number and handset model on installation, your creations are not sent to your phone, instead you're given a link to download them. You can type that into your phone browser, or download it onto your computer and then transfer it to your mobile, though we thought this was a bit pointless. It's easy to transfer music and image files to your mobile without ToneThis, and as it doesn't send your files directly to your phone, it's difficult to see the value in using it.
With less obtrusive advertising and help uploading to your mobile, ToneThis could have been a nice application for people who aren't technically able. But as it is it's hard to recommend.
